My son has learned a new phrase, “Happy Day!” He probably picked it up from church. There is this one song we sing during worship called “Happy Day” and he loves to sing and dance when it is played. He spends most of his time shouting out “Happy Day!” He shouts it out as he plays at home, as he sits in the car and while we walk through the supermarket. The interesting thing about it is that it seems more than just the random babblings of a 16 month old. It’s a declaration. This couldn’t have been more evident than in our last trip to Disney.
Over the spring break, Sarah and I took Jude to Disney. We really enjoy going there and spring break just seemed like a good time to go. Our first trip to Disney was in January and the park was relatively empty, the weather was amazing and the park goers were pleasant. This trip was completely different. The park was packed; the weather was significantly warmer which lead which lead to people being a little more irritable. To accommodate the extra people, the park stayed open later than usual. Sarah and I decided we would stay as long as possible. Some might question our reasoning, since we had a 16 month old with us but we wanted to make the most of our time there.
We waited in line after line for most of the day. As the day progressed, you could see the faces of the people around us start to change. Their faces went from big smiles, to blank stares, to complete exhaustion. By this time, it was near 11pm, and the whole time my son was wide awake. He was all smiles and full of energy. As Sarah and I waited with him in line, he started yelling at the top of his lungs “Happy Day!” We tried to settle him down so as to not bother the people standing in line around us, but the more we tried, the louder he got. “Happy Daaayyyy!”, he would shout. “HHHHaaaappppyyyyyyyyyy DDDDDaaaayyyyyyy!” I began to notice something around us; people’s faces were changing. They started laughing and smiling again. The atmosphere around us changed. People didn’t seem as tired and aggravated. Change was radiating from Jude. It was as if a joy explosion had occurred and Jude was at its epicenter. It was really something to see.
The Lord in that moment reminded me of something very important. We have the power to change the spiritual condition and atmosphere around us. What we declare, God will back up! The Scripture tell us in Proverbs 18:21, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” There is so much power in what we confess with our mouths. As children of God, we should be declaring the blessings, realities and promises of the Kingdom and not curses. If you are having financial difficulties, you should not be declaring your poverty, but instead declare that you are financed by the Kingdom. Don’t speak curses over your children, by saying that they will never amount to anything or will never get it. Speak blessing over them; they are more than conquerors and heirs of God’s promise. If you are having problem with your spouse, don’t curse the relationship, rather speak the promises of God over your lives. Speak life and watch God bring that life into existence.
God has given us the power and authority as His children to declare His Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Change your atmosphere! Speak Life! Today is a Happy Day!!!!!!!!!
